When most of us think of life coaching, we have an image in our mind of a guru type of figure who helps us check our goals off from a list we made of our ambitions and obstacles. This is true sometimes, but did you know that certain life coaches can help you to build better relationships with the world around you through emotional intelligence coaching?
Emotional intelligence coaching is coaching that helps you to become more aware of your feelings and reactions, and helps you to have better control over them in order to to handle relationships in a more empathetic fashion.
What is Emotional Intelligence Coaching?
Emotional intelligence can be described as an intuition or an insight into your feelings and the feelings of those you interact with. Suppose that your neighbor makes a comment about having a hard time sleeping on account of the commotion outside. At first thought, it makes perfect sense that they’d be tired if they’re having trouble sleeping. But if we read their body language or think about the music we’re playing at night, we can begin to understand that we may be keeping them up at night. Maybe they’re too afraid of confrontation to mention it, or maybe they don’t want to seem controlling or abrasive.
These sorts of occurrences happen frequently during everyday conversations. With many of our interactions occurring via text messaging, it’s easy to misinterpret somebody’s words or response times as the opposite of what they really mean. Emotional intelligence coaching can help you to see an outside perspective of your reactions and emotions on a daily basis. By becoming more in tune with your own feelings, eventually you’ll become more receptive to the subtle clues or potential downfall during your interactions.
Emotional intelligence also helps us to not become overly emotional when somebody says something hurtful or that we disagree with. There’s a powerful quote by Warren Buffett. He says “you’ll continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you.” Words have powerful, and when we give into our lesser emotions when reacting, we’re letting go of our power, and giving complete control to the person we’re responding to.
By utilizing emotional intelligence coaching, we can help you learn how to navigate your interactions with a calm and collected mindset.
